Through inter-disciplinary, inter-sector and inter-regional comparative research, the SAIT project sought to articulate/map the "cultural ecosystem" of three cities (Rotterdam, Minneapolis, Belgrad) in an attempt to bridge the gap between critical theory and contemporary cultural / aesthetic practices. Per invitation by the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Innbetween proposed within the "research-laboratory" environment a headquarters for secret agents in search for the WHY in Rotterdam. The Why in Rotterdam, lies innbetween it's factual history or consensus reality and it's hidden legends or imagined utopias. Within the accumulative/process-oriented exhibition aesthetically defined by statistics and political-scientific documentary, a range of various more subjective and "fantastic" strategies were developed to subvert the traditional expectation of the museum experience. Interviews, questionairres, photography, discussions, faxes, "contradictionaries" and framing current political propaganda as art(efacts) were instruments to inject some background machinations and hidden stories of Rotterdam into the larger, often analytical and superficial SAIT scheme of comparing cities.
ALSO READ: THE OTHER SIDE SAIT DIARY In that time, for an evening theme of a subcultural podium ex-nightclub "De Player" called "The Resurrection of the Visual Arts", an eight minute movie was made about an individual's schizophrenic search for the "Stromboli" (artist?) in the insular and inbred forum of the art-world in Rotterdam, equally evident at the SAIT exhibition. SAIT organized by CHOROS International Projects (USA) with Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art.
